My kura-kura car

Hmmm.... ok, my car is not as slow as kura-kura, but I think it's getting very old that it can't function properly anymore, for instance, everytime when I ignite my car, I have to do it at least 3 times before my car get started. It was used to be Abu's car before I came to Texas, but since I came here, this kura-kura car become my possession liao. Poor Abu, have to walk to work everyday (her working place is just nearby our house, like 15mins walk). But I guess I am doing Abu a favour, because today she told me that 'I am so happy that I lost much weight due to the daily walk'.

I am getting more and more worry as the frequency of failure is getting more and more.

Like today after my class (usually my class ends at 9pm), I again tumpang Han's car to pick up my car at another parking lot. Usually I will ask him to go off once I alight from his car, but just now, I was so kiasi that I warned him 'DO NOT GO OFF BEFORE I DO'. Maybe I should describe more about where I parked my car:-

1) It's a very dark and quiet parking place, you can't spot any passerby for very long time.
2) Because of above, if I ever get kidnapped there, it's equal to I am doomed.

True enough, again I can't start my car for 5mins. But I wasn't that gan cheong because Han's was just beside me. Thanks Han, being a 'flower escort' to his sister, haha...

And everytime when I drive at I-10 freeway, I keep praying that my car don't break down in the middle of the road, and the distance from my school to my house is a full 20mins driving in high speed (at least 60miles per hour).

Now, I find the 20mins very long....very very long...

Hopefully Old Bean will be kind enough to buy a new car for me. I don't need a big sedan, a cute small car is good enough liao. Hee hee..

(Old Bean's OS: Suay lui, got car drive enough liao lar, want to demand somemore... later I take back your car then you know...)

Anyway, Old Bean promised to bring my car for service on Sat, hopefully they can fix all the problems. If they can't, it's ok too, that means I will have a new car... GUA ...

Suay Monday

It's a beli suay (extremely unlucky) Monday... It started with:

1. Car can't be ignited this morning
2. Worst traffic jam that I've met in El Paso
3. Late for work: 25mins
4. Having stomachache during event 1, 2 and 3
5. Car again can't be ignited in the afternoon

Am I experiencing 'A Series of Unfortunate Events'?

The day hasn't ended, what's next?

Malaysia's 80s baby‏

If you are Msia's 80s baby, read through this, we grew up watching Transformers, Thundercats, Woody Woodpecker, Chipmunks, Mickey Mouse, Jem, Mask, Ninja Turtles, Voltron, Baja Hitam, Ultraman n not forgettin POWER RANGERS n BUGS BUNNY!!!and anderra yippa mice? , McGyver ?

had to brush our teeths during recess at primary school? had to hold plastic cups, line up with your classmates side by side and start brushing our teeths at some open area... or maybe near some longkang??

do you still remember that we had 'dentist' rooms where we had to have our teeths check?

not to forget our 'program minum susu' in primary school.. everybody is suppose to buy like cartons of milk that costed 30 cents.. and you would see everyone drinking it everyday...its d UHT milk...

the teachers who would want to punish us must use yellow rulers to hit us on our palms?? 1 metre length..

that a bowl of mihun soup or some soup only costed 50 cents at the school canteen...

went to some sundry shop near the school or to the 'roti' man waiting outside our schools so that we can buy junk food like chickedees, mamee, ding dang with some toys in it, 'Ti Kam', ice-cream and we would play games like monopoly, uno, old maid, and all other card games like that...

another fun time would be during Pendidikan Jasmani. the boys would play football while the girls would play netball... and it would be like we were playing in the world cup...

but of course. the best would be main guli, batu seremban, bottlecaps, ice- cream sticks, 'Pepsi Cola one-two-three', Cops and Robbers, main kejar-kejar duduk,getah... and for the not so active, those kind of 'book games' where we would use buku latihan to draw and ask our friends to play...

do you remember the ice-cream tubes which are actually ice and colouring that are sold for 10 to 20 cents.. the colourful ones.. where you usually bite off the top to glup it down.orange tastes b best..(pop-ice)

what about days when we felt like doing naughty things such as folding papers so small to make 'lastik' amd shoot each other... how about throwing chalks??

back then, micheal jackson was just turning white.. and still had albums coming out.. compared to CD's, we were listening to tapes that sold for RM9.90 ...

in computer class, we were still using black and white computer moniters.. played 'Atari'... maybe SEGA or NINTENDO..

well, are we all getting older or what?

1) if you understand what you have read and you are smiling...

2) we have friends from school that are already married...

3) we shake our heads everytime we see high school students fussing about their handphones in school..

4) we don't hang on phone with our friends for hours a day talking about nothing...

5) when we meet back with our friends from time to time, we feel excited and happy talking about old times, the funny 'adventures' or stories that we experienced as a kid..

6) last but not least, that when you read this, you would think of all the happy & sad memories that you have experienced when you were still a kid and would think of forwarding this to your old friends that you have known since forever... i'm sure they would have a huge smile on their face after reading this.....

Sellphone?

Transformers Ultimate BumbleBee

Today Han bought a BumbleBee toy, that you can transform from an Autobot...

to a car...

Although it says for age 5+...

I seriously doubt a 5 years old kid can complete such complex transformation by hiself, as Han and I (total age added up :48) took half an hour to do so - to group and ungroup.

At last, when we manage to group and ungroup BumbleBee, it's time to fight!

Autobot...You're my first human friend...Transformers....

I think Han is very happy with his new toy today, me too. We are macam back to childhood days..

Faster buy 4D

Obviously, we are the Malaysian 80's babies...Hahaha...come on Transformers...

It's so wise for toy manufacturer and film maker to make Transformers movie a blockbuster now, because the 80's babies have spending power now, big spending power. What's next?

And Abu bought candies for Halloween... I would just think that nowadays kids are much much more lucky than the 80's, or before 80's one. I remember we don't have Halloween and the candies we had were 'hudson and husdon', 3 for 20cents?

Lincoln Middle School

Yesterday morning, I went to Abraham Lincoln Middle School to give a presentation about Malaysia. Those kids were very cute and funny... but their questions struck me hard:

1. Is Malaysia your country or it's your name?
Me: Malaysia is my country...

2. How much is the gas used for F1 car racing (I presented Sepang F1 circuit)?
Me: ..... eeeerrrr.... I don't know.

3. Do you eat the green part (shell) of Durian?
Me: No...
Why?
Me: ... Because it's not meant to be eaten?

4. Why is it that Durian is in this shape and color?
Me: .... Because it's like this already on the tree?...

5. Do you guys live on the rock?
Me: Well, that's a good guess.

Best of all, when I was in half way through my presentation, this cute little gal asked:

What is the name of your country?
Me: .... Let me show your the first slide once more (the title of first slide is Malaysia)...

International Food Fair

Han poses dumb face during food preparation yesterday

Today is a busy day, because today is International Food Fair day.

Our booth with many many flags

Too bad I gotta work most of the time, so I only manage to help out a bit before and after the food fair.

Marian, don't she looks like Ms.Switzerland?

I suppose the busiest person throughout this event would be Marian, our ambassador coordinator, that she didn't sleep much on yesterday. I hope she would have a nice sleep tonight.

Marian selling French bread with fillings

When I got there at the food fair after my work, it was near the closing time. So not much food left for me to steal eat, except this newly invented French food: French bread with fillings.

newly invented French food,yummy!

See the menu, we have many foods including Seri Muka (proudly made by Abu), but all gone by the time I arrive.

Menu of the day

Luckily I was able to take a photo of Jalur Gemilang...

Malaysia boleh!

Of course, without helps from lovely French volunteers, it would be difficult to have such event goes through smoothly!

Bonjour!

It was a huge success for this food fair, that we collected 637 tickets! After counting the ticket, I stack up the ticket and it become a TICKET ROBOT!

El Paso is one of the most haunted locations in the country

For those people that know me well, would know that I've extreme fear of spooky stories and darkness. And now I am living in such city:

El Paso is one of the most haunted locations in the country," said the retired lawyer and former Army officer. "El Paso High School sits on one of the haunted sites, and there are many others."

Jialat... I wanna cabut liao...

Halloween is approaching, many houses in my taman decorated their house with hantu and pumpkins... very fascinating indeed.

If time permits, I will take photo of these houses and post them here...

Happy Halloween in advance!

Although it doesn't feel good when newspaper openly criticise Malaysian government , it feel great when Finally, someone speak up my mind!.

Bikini!

$19 bikini. cheap, good quality and most importantly, can fit into my body

Haha...my first bikini...si be sua gu bah! Got Bunga Raya on it o! What a patriotic Malaysian!

But I guess, I don't have chance to wear it before I slim down my tummy. :(

This weekend has been a shopping spree for me, spent money like water. Sat-$69, Sun-$69. 1 week salary gone. Most of my $ are spent on winter wear. I know bikini is not classified as 'winter wear', but hey, it's cheapest to buy in this season than summer; and thankfully, they have my size.

Sad to say that I tried to look for a suitable bikini for myself in Singapore before, it always ended up with either 'sorry Mdm, we don't have your size' or 'Oh my god, these little 2 pieces of cloths cost that much?'

Thus, I've this perception towards Singapore, this island country - Only slim women can wear bikini. Other women, please hide your flabby waist and shaggy butt under the diving suit.

Correct me if I am wrong please...

What's for dinner?

Abu: What's for dinner tonight?

Pink Leo: Anything lar... up to you..

Abu: American (food)? Mexican? Indian?

Pink Leo: You choose lar..

Abu: No lar... I want you to choose...

Pink Leo: Like that ar.... Mexican lor.. I never try a good Mexican food before...

Abu: Mexican? You sure? Don't want lar... Let's try Indian food today..

Pink Leo:(siapa cakap bagi saya pilih punya ar?)

At the end, we went to the ghostly Chinese restaurant again.

Before dinner, Old Bean brought me to outlet mall to buy some long pants. As mentioned, weather is getting colder now, and I only have 2 pairs of long pants (I prefer to wear short skirt than pants).

2 pants to tahan whole fall and winter? Mission Impossible. So I bought 2 pairs of jeans from different store today, and noticed the difference between branded and less branded.

1 Levi's jeans can beat 1 Rhino jeans+2 Rhino tops

2 tops + 1 jeans from Ekco Rhino= USD32

1 Levi's jeans = USD37

It was 630am, and I accompanied Old Bean to Toyota, for car servicing. My duty of the day: Drive him back after he left his car there for servicing.

Although it was a simple task, when it took place at 630am, it became a difficult task for me, to be fully alert (must be alert when driving hor, or else easily langgar hor) such early hour.

Well, apparently, my worry is lebih de. The moment I stepped out of my front door, the freezing air immediately wake each of my cell up, including hair cell (hair got cell one? anyway my hair was standing straight).

Unconsciously, I shouted: 寒いね (samui ne = cold, in Jap)

Thanks to Jap drama, I picked up this word and use it frequently whenever I feel cold.

Since it's freezing now, doubled the coldness, it should be this instead:

Kao, si be 寒いね!

*Above statement is typical Pink Leo's language, rojak everything and form my own grammar and sentence structure. Please get used of it.

Break record!

An lar.. It's not Guinness World record lar.. But it's my very own home ground record : Unique Visit.

Pink Leo's trap had been suffering from very pathetic per-day-visits for past 2 months, such as less than 10 per day. :(

30 Sep 07 - 9 Unique Visits
29 Sep 07 - 6 Unique Visits

And for the first time in Pink Leo's trap, we achieve :

19 Oct 07 - 69 Unique Visits

Although it doesn't bring me any monetary benefits, I'm in cloud 9 now!

The Mile High Club

I've just read this news 'Singapore's A380 'has no first class', and I came across this:

'For couples with the money, there is an option to join two suites together to make a double bed, forming a self-contained bubble for two with closed sides and complete privacy. '

Wow... Welcome to the Mile High Club!

LONDON - Bury me naked. Put a mobile phone in the coffin. Cremate me with my pet's ashes. Bury me with my teeth in. And do make sure I'm actually dead.

Those were some of the most popular requests by people planning their funerals, according to research by the British charity Age Concern, which promotes the interests of elderly people.

Britain is known for being a nation of animal lovers and it seems Britons cannot bear to be separated from their beloved pets - even when both parties are dead.

Age Concern Funeral Plans polled more than 100,000 of its customers and found that being buried with their pet's ashes was the most common funeral rite request.

But several top requests suggested many were worried about being buried alive, with those planning their funerals asking to be certified dead, a mirror to be held over their faces to check for vapour signs of breathing, and a mobile phone left in the coffin.

Others were related to appearance, such as being buried naked "as they came into the world" or with their false teeth in.

Top eight most common requests:
1. To be cremated with their pet's ashes;
2. To have a mobile phone in the coffin;
3. To ensure they are dead;
4. For a mirror to be held over the face to check for signs of breathing;
5. To be cremated naked;
6. To be buried in their own garden;
7. To be buried with their teeth in;
8. To be buried with all their savings.

Hhhhmmmm...interesting.... I think I would request for point.3, or else I would have to activate plan B, which is point. 2, which may scare my family to death.

"Hello hello.... hubby ar... can you pick me up at the cemetery? I'm being locked up here in a wooden box..."

P/S: I am not trying to play a joke with the death and I do respect dead people very much. Amitabha!

The beauty of maths

1 x 8 + 1 = 9
12 x 8 + 2 = 98
123 x 8 + 3 = 987
1234 x 8 + 4 = 9876
12345 x 8 + 5 = 98765
123456 x 8 + 6 = 987654
1234567 x 8 + 7 = 9876543
12345678 x 8 + 8 = 98765432
123456789 x 8 + 9 = 987654321

1 x 9 + 2 = 11
12 x 9 + 3 = 111
123 x 9 + 4 = 1111
1234 x 9 + 5 = 11111
12345 x 9 + 6 = 111111
123456 x 9 + 7 = 1111111
1234567 x 9 + 8 = 11111111
12345678 x 9 + 9 = 111111111
123456789 x 9 +10= 1111111111

9 x 9 + 7 = 88
98 x 9 + 6 = 888
987 x 9 + 5 = 8888
9876 x 9 + 4 = 88888
98765 x 9 + 3 = 888888
987654 x 9 + 2 = 8888888
9876543 x 9 + 1 = 88888888
98765432 x 9 + 0 = 888888888

Brilliant, isn't it?

And finally, take a look at this symmetry:
1 x 1 = 1
11 x 11 = 121
111 x 111 = 12321
1111 x 1111 = 1234321
11111 x 11111 = 123454321
111111 x 111111 = 12345654321
1111111 x 1111111 = 1234567654321
11111111 x 11111111 = 123456787654321
111111111 x 111111111=12345678987654321

Welcome to the Magic World!

What would be the first thing pops up in your mind when you hear 'Magic'?

Well, I would think of Disney immediately. In fact, I have a dream since I was very young:
I want to visit all the Disney Parks in this planet.

So far, I've accomplished 3/5 of my dream - I've visited Disney Parks in California, Florida and Hong Kong. Left with Tokyo and France. Hopefully I can realize my dream as soon as possible, but of course it would be great too if I can realize my dream together with my children in future.

Not too long ago, Disney has started the recruitment of Disney College Program (internships) for Spring08. Great Disney fan like me wouldn't want to miss this opportunity. Thus I've completed the application and phone interview, 2 weeks later, I received this letter:

Click for larger picture

Here is the text version of my letter:

Dear Fui Ling,

Congratulations! You have been selected to participate as a Merchandise Cast Member on the Disney College Program in the Spring 2008 Season. This is a great opportunity for all students, and we are proud to offer this opportunity to you! This program will allow you to gain academically oriented work experience- the kind that professionals in every field agree provides participants with the tools they need to compete effectively in today's job market.

I couldn't believe my eyes at first when I read this... I am soooo lucky! This is what I call MAGIC!

However, I have to decline this invitation due to some visa restriction that I can only go for internships after one full year of study.

Nevertheless, I will definitely apply for Fall 08 internships, even in the expense that I have to graduate one semester later than current plan.

I want to be part of the magic!

When was the last time you read a book?

Is 'reading' one of you hobbies?

No, reading is not one of hobbies (my hobby is music - sing or guitar or piano or organ, btw), but I do consider myself as a person who would at least read a book every year. When I say 'read', it means I do complete the whole book. 'Book' doesn't include magazine (especially those 8 gua magazine like TVB magazine), newspaper (newspaper is important, you should read it everyday), comic (I just can't figure how should the pictures flow, is it from left to right, bottom to top?) and textbook (it doesn't bring me any pleasure by reading it).

The most recent book I read is Harry Potter, The Deathly Hallow. Ya, I know, it's kinda children story book. But hei, it's still dictionary-thick and full of chim (Singlish: difficult) English words! It's a great effort for Chee-pai (Chinese educated) person e.g me to complete the whole book, and I read that in July, during my Taiwan trip. Phew, I managed to complete Harry Potter 7 within 1 week, with much helps from Ms.Da.

Since July until today, October 16, I haven't pick up any decent book. Gosh, cannot like this lar cannot like this lar! Old Bean (who likes to read a lot, I mean, really A LOT!) recommended me few books like Street Lawyer, but the first 10 pages put me into nice slumber. Leng Leng gave me a book Secret (not Jay Chow's Secret, but it was one of the best selling book in August) and I gave up after reading the first page, sorry ar Leng Leng!

Now it's the period where exams and assignments are due, thus I don't have much time for leisure reading now. However, after this busy period, I would like to start from this book : 'I'm not sick, just a bit unwell', written by Yvonne Foong. Quoted from her blog, this book is about a story of true blue Malaysian.

I can't find this book in Amazon or Barnes and Noble at the moment, but I've ordered from Yvonne and I'll be expecting the book be delivered to my house in December, which is just after my final exams period. Sui!

If you are thinking of picking up a book now, please select this book 'I'm not sick, just a bit unwell'. Although I haven't read it yet, I would think that this book worth your time.

The book is currently on sale at the following bookstores, all over Malaysia and Brunei.

I know most people in Singapore don't read during their MRT trip, as I usually see them sleeping, playing handphone with loud sound on, day dreaming, playing mp3 loudly... or worse, talking with the air - I'm not joking, this usually happen in the late night train service.

Instead of wasting 10-40mins MRT trip doing nothing beneficial, why not read a book? Above book is a good book to start with.

Jia you!

Please let me strike Toto!

Ok, I am terribly missing Singapore now, especially the ktv session (not LogHeadYap).

Since I have 2 weeks free period in Dec/Jan, I am thinking if I should go back Singapore and celebrate New Year there. And maybe I can do Lasik surgery at the same time...

Of course, I need lots of $$ for this trip:- (in SGD)

  1. Air ticket $2500

  2. Lasik surgery $4200

  3. Shopping $300

  4. KTV $200 (I'm going to sing everyday!)

  5. Others... $100

Total price tag: $7300

Gosh, there is no way that I can save $7300 by Dec, unless I strike Toto!

Please let me strike Toto...or Lottery ar!

Selamat Hari Raya!

I didn't realize that today is Hari Raya until I saw kennysia.com change its background to raya colour.

Well, that's the thing about living in El Paso, you don't feel even a tiny bit of Raya celebration. Hmm... I miss ketupat lah!

I reckon there aren't much Muslim readers to my blog, but I would still like to wish everyone, especially to those in Malaysia and Singapore :

Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri!

Yesterday was a happy Friday again, as the ambassadors are meeting up again! Haha.. it seems that every time when we (the International ambassadors) gather, it means fun time!

Yesterday meeting's purpose was to introduce ourselves to the staff of OIP (Office of International Program), so that we are familiar to each other.

So each of the ambassador have to present 5 uniqueness of our home country, and I am representing Singapore (not Malaysia, though I'm Malaysian, because my brother is representing Malaysia), what I presented were:

  1. Singlish (Don't play play ar, reminds me of PCK)
  2. Kiasu-ism
  3. Merlion
  4. Chewing gum ban
  5. Singapore is a 'fine' country

I guess my presentation was ok, as it did leave a deep impression upon the audiences, especially my last slide where I put this photo that I took in Chinatown MRT station.

In fact, they were more interested to know what 'durian' is.

Nah, this is durian lar, the king of fruit. It's either you love it or hate it.

It's kind of difficult for me to describe exactly what is a durian other that 'fruit, spiky, fragrant (some say smelly)', maybe I should bring them a durian on one day...if I can pass through the custom check.

I might get caught for 'smuggling a durian'.

"Convict Pink Leo, for smuggling durian." :(

And of course from this meeting, I got to know more about other countries, like South Korea,China,Thailand,Bhutan,Ghana,Poland,Mexico,Switzerland and Australia.

Frankly, I know less about countries out of Asia, such as Ghana,Poland,Mexico and Switzerland. It's an eye opener for me to know that Ghana's middle name is related to the day you were born, Poland is famous for its pottery, Mexico has gone through a difficult period in the past and Switzerland is not just about Alps and cheese.

And one interesting thing that I found out yesterday was there are so many similarity between Malaysia and Ghana, including the weather, cocoa production, Ghana gained independence from British in 1957 and they celebrate Ramadan too. So when Malaysia and Singapore are having Hari Raya public holiday now, I guess Ghana is having PH as well.

As we were chatting more, John (the Ghana's ambassador) mentioned about CID police thingy, Han and I were struck with the word C.I.D. This is a very familiar word for Hong Kong drama fans like us.

We continued to chat and chat and chat...non stop...as if we have known each other for more than 10 years.

(Si4 Hai3 Zhi1 Nei4, Jie1 Xiong1 Di4 Ye3)... in short, it means we are all brother (or sister) wherever we are.

Hhmm...I like the last statement that Poncho (Mexico's ambassador) said:

... we are here to celebrate our difference...

Ahh, I can't really remember the whole statement, but I will check it out and update here soon.

Welcome to the global village!

We are the world..

Wanna have a choco bite?

Can you imagine having a choco bite at your ear?

Well, not hard to imagine though.

Kawaii! I wanna have that!

Don't you think it's just way too cool to have this tiny choco donut (of course not edible one lar) to match your outfit? Regardless you are wearing a-go-go style, casual jeans or feminine dress, this will definitely be a plus to whole!

Feel like having a bite? Well, come to Yvonne Foong's blog and take a look!

I want to grab this!

However at the moment, I'm soooooo tired that I am going to collapse any second. Been busy for whole day : work from morning - lunch out with Abu + buy bday cake for Old Bean - continue to work - super aborrido (Spanish : boring) 3 hours class - pajamas bday celebration for Old Bean - assignment due tomorrow, time to wrap up!

It's going to be 3am in 10mins. I must tuck in now.

Oyasuminasai!

It is Old Bean's birthday!

*Amended and Updated on 11 Oct 07 2.30am Texas time*

Today is 10 10 2007 (here in Texas), perfect double ten. Other than it's Taiwan National Day, it is Old Bean's birthday too.

Old Bean a.k.a very important person in my house a.k.a ATM machine of my house is probably the odd one out in my house. Among the 5 members in my family (OldBean,Abu,PinkLeo,Han and Ping), he is always quietest person while the rest of us are as noisy as pasar malam.

However, BAU=Business as usual for today. Everyone in my house went to work/study in the early morning and will reach home only after 9pm. By the time we finish our dinner, it was close to 10pm. Everyone is tired after whole day out, so we only did a simple celebration where everyone dress in pajamas. Cool sia!

Lab lab luen birthday song

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAD! Thanks for raising me well and providing the best of the best to me! I love you..... despite of your kedekut character. Hahahaha...
